Virginia Frances Sterrett (1900-1931) was an American artist and illustrator. Born in Chicago, USA; was an introverted child who preferred the world of her own imagination; I have been drawing since early childhood.
She completed her first work at age 19 in 1920 (shortly after which she was diagnosed with tuberculosis), Old French Fairy Tales for the Penn Publishing Company, a collection of old French fairy tales collected and edited by the 19th-century French writer Comtesse de Segur ( Sofya Fedorovna Rostopchina).
A year later, the artist illustrated Tanglewood Tales for the same publishing house. From 1923 Sterrett's health began to deteriorate rapidly, allowing her to work only for short periods; before her death in 1931 she was able to complete only one more series of works - her own interpretation of Tales of the 1001 Nights (1928). These illustrations became her most famous work. Two years after publication, she died of tuberculosis at the age of 30.
