Ferdinand du Puigaudeau (Ferdinand du Puigaudeau) French post-impressionist artist (32 works)
Ferdinand du Puigado (1864-1930). Puygaudeau's distinctive impressionist style is evident in his color changes and descriptions of light. Throughout his career, he was in search of bright, vibrant color. He chose subjects that allowed him to play with extremes of color and light: sunsets, fireworks, artificial lighting, and the transitory effects of flickering sun or moonlight on water. In each case, the fleeting effects of light and color are his true subject. Beautiful sea views at night were typical of his work due to his fascination with the nighttime transparency of light in particular. However, these night scenes are never dark. Puygodeaux claimed to believe in “color above all else,” and his night scenes sparkle with vibrant shades of blue, green, gold, and red.
