Totoya Hockey (1780-1850, Edo) Japanese printmaker and book illustrator. He entered the Kano school, then became a student of Katsushika Hokusai. Moreover, he was one of his best students. He made his debut in the Ukiyo-e genre with illustrations for sharebon (comic novels, usually obscene), hanashibon (stories) and kyokabon (“crazy verse”). Another important aspect of his work is drawing Surimono postcards (a genre of color woodcuts combining image and text (often poetic) and represents congratulations on holidays or special (personal) events. Surimono had different sizes, but the shape was almost always the same - square, just as the use of the highest grade paper was unchanged.)
