Bob Norman Ross (born October 29, 1942 in Daytona Beach, Florida; died July 4, 1995) is an American painter and television host of The Joy of Painting, a weekly television series launched in 1983. Died of lymphoma at the age of 52.
Bob Ross served 20 years in the United States Air Force before becoming a world-famous television personality.
He studied at an engineering college and did not have a special art education. Ross was a vegetarian known for his love of wildlife, caring for orphaned squirrels and other animals until they were old enough to live independently.
Bob Ross became famous for creating a fast technique for effective oil painting on canvas. All Bob Ross paintings are created in a half-hour session.
