KETUBAH (plural KETUBOT), a standard marriage contract that, according to Jewish law, the groom was required to provide to the bride on the wedding day. It was intended to protect a woman in the event of divorce or widowhood. In addition to financial clauses, it stipulated conditions relating to food, clothing and housing.
