The paintings of Alexander Starodubov fascinate lovers of Moscow antiquity - in them the city looks irresistibly beautiful with its ancient mansions, narrow streets, some inexpressible charm of snow-covered trees and a foggy horizon.
Alexander does not “photograph”, but writes only this – his old Moscow. Almost without people, leisurely, winter or autumn. Usually dusted with light snow, with trees touched with frost. Almost without bright colors, but very beautiful with its old Moscow architecture of mansions. In his work, he returns to the origins of the urban landscape - away from the modern, dynamic, glass-concrete metropolis... You are always trying to understand where this or that plot was written off? You see familiar architectural objects, churches, houses, but you don’t recognize the street... It turns out that this whole “Starodubov’s Moscow”, which is so similar to reality, is essentially a figment of the artist’s imagination.
Alexander Starodubov started writing late. After graduating from the Moscow Aviation Institute, he served in the Armed Forces. And only after 30 years old he began to work as a professional artist and joined the trade union of independent artists. His works are exhibited at many exhibitions and are in various collections in Russia and abroad. A series of works was acquired by the Bulgakov Museum in Toronto, Canada, to show visitors the spirit of the old fairy-tale-fantastic Moscow...
