The famous Belgian architect Victor Horta was born in Ghent on January 6, 1861. Horta played the violin since childhood and, after graduating from school, entered the Ghent Conservatory, but studied there for only a year, as he was expelled due to poor discipline. He then began to study architecture at the Ghent Academy of Fine Arts. In 1878, Horta went to study in Paris, but returned to Ghent two years later due to the death of his father. In 1881 he moved to Brussels and entered the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied with the architect Alphonse Bal while working in his workshop. Horta had great respect for his teacher throughout his life. Even in his will, written in 1944, Horta found it necessary to mention his debt to the master.
