Most people, of course, know the hummingbird, they know that it is the smallest bird on Earth, but here are some little-known facts about these amazing birds:
- In one day of life, a hummingbird, calculated per unit of weight, spends about the same amount of energy as a jet plane;
- The heart of these gentle creatures occupies almost half of the body cavity and beats at a frequency of 1,400 beats per minute, and their flight speed reaches 80 km/h. And if it is difficult to follow the movement of hummingbirds, you can hear them very clearly, since, making up to 80 wing beats per second, they emit a buzzing sound similar to a bumblebee.
- Besides, these little ones are very fearless. Bravely defending their nest, they can knock down a snake with strong blows of their beak.
- Hummingbirds can hover in the air and fly in any direction - up, down, sideways or upside down;
- Hummingbird feathers are colored by the refraction of light, not pigment;
- Hummingbirds have no sense of smell;
-Their favorite color is red;
- Hummingbirds can't walk. Their paws are adapted only for sitting on a branch. To turn on a branch, the bird has to fly
- It is also interesting that hummingbirds are capable of falling into a lethargic sleep. During the day, the body temperature of a hummingbird is 39-40 degrees Celsius, and at night, when the ambient temperature drops, the bird falls into a stupor, its body temperature drops to 18 degrees, and breathing becomes barely noticeable. Thus, the hummingbird reduces energy expenditure. And as morning comes and the air temperature rises, the hummingbird returns to its normal state.

Here is a small selection of beautiful photos and paintings of hummingbirds
