This photo shows trucks turning off the Trans-Amazon Highway onto the BR-163 in Campo Verde, near Itaituba, Pará State, Brazil. Carved out of the jungle during Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s, these roads were built to subjugate nature to human will. Four decades later, cars still roam the roads, the surrounding forests have been cleared, and locals fear progress may pass them by.

Christmas trees are being harvested at Hole Park in Cranbrook, England. In the lead-up to the holiday, thousands of trees are cut down at Hole Park and then transported across southeast England. The trees are grown specifically for the Christmas market. These include Norway spruce, blue spruce, Serbian spruce, and Nordmann fir. Once planted, these conifers require many years of careful care to grow to the desired shape and size. The felling of the trees begins in early November in preparation for the Christmas season.
This aerial drone photo shows Kivalina, located on the edge of the Arctic Barrier Reef between the lagoon and the Chukchi Sea. This photo was taken in Kivalina, Alaska. The town is located 133 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Kivalina and several other Alaskan coastal communities are suffering from Arctic warming, which has led to the disappearance of the sea ice that protects the island's coastline from storm surges and coastal erosion. Kivalina residents hope they won't have to flee the harsh environment. They want to remain on their ancestral lands and preserve their culture.
City Administrator Collin Swan says that as climate change changes, people's lifestyles will change, and local residents will have to adapt. Previously, climate change forced them to migrate constantly. But now, the official says, given the scale of the problem, people can only hope that the rest of the world will allow northerners to maintain their traditional way of life.

In recent years, the Dalyan Canal, a combination of reeds, marshland, and fresh and salt water, has attracted the attention of tourists. Dolmuş boats, which take tourists along the Dalyan Canal, carry tourists from the Koycegiz and Ortaca districts to Iztuzu Beach, allowing them to observe herons among the reeds, turtles, and mullet.
